The UQ BIG BAND plays jazz classics by artists such as Michael Bublé, Phil Collins, Robbie Williams and Harry Connick Jnr and special works from artists such as Bob Curnow, Amy Winehouse, Radiohead and Bjork, as well as their own originals.
Based at The University of Queensland, the band is led by the award-winning trumpet player Clint Allen and is now in its eighth year. It has played festivals, corporate functions, community events and concerts from Broadbeach to Bundaberg. Following the release of two acclaimed CDs: Band of Distinction and Time after Time, the UQ BIG BAND developed a reputation by staging its own special events at Brisbane’s Princess Theatre: Jazzimations, a sound-track performance with projected cartoons, and the inaugural performance of Marcus Geiselhardt’s ‘The other side of MozART’ with strings.
