Our charitable donations and community activities aim to fund initiatives that give back to the community, create a better quality of life for the beneficiaries, raise awareness and consciousness of the many challenges people face and help make the world a safer, healthier and more conscious place.
The Teneriffe Festival Inc aims to support a wide range of good causes and charitable organisations each year. These are the local and national causes we have decided to support in 2017.
The Teneriffe Festival is excited to announce that MS Research Australia has been confirmed as the national charity of choice for 2017.
In assessing which charitable causes to support each year, the board of the Tenerife Festival have an onerous application process and selection criteria to be addressed. MS Research Australia was chosen from a strong field of nominations because of the internationally recognised awareness that has been generated from the Kiss Goodbye to MS campaign.
Kiss Goodbye to MS is MS Research Australia’s fundraising and awareness campaign and each year generates over $1 million for research into MS. Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is the most commonly acquired neurological disease in the world with 2.3 million people worldwide living with MS, and over 23,000 Australians. Each day between 1-2 people are diagnose with MS. Around 75% affected in Australia are female and the average age of diagnosis just 30 years of age.
Youth suicide rates have quadrupled over the past four years. Of the 450+ youth suicides and the 4000+ attempted suicides last year, 80% of these were a consequence of bullying. ICANIWILL works to eradicate bullying in an effort to reduce youth suicide. We do this through school-based mentoring programs that empower the students to tackle the problem themselves.
I Can I Will stand by their pledge of 'All for one and one for all,' encouraging the students to work together to change school culture, making bullying uncool, unacceptable, and against the social norm. If one child is being bullied, it is up to all of the students in the program to take a stand.
The Lions Club of Teneriffe are working with Trinity Pantry and Neighbourhood Centre to provide financial assistance, meals and food items to alleviate hunger within the community.
They also aim to assist local schools and other groups locally through a variety of initiatives. A focus close to the heart of the Club is to support the hungry, the youth and the environment in their own backyard.
