The Historical Society plays the important role in the festival of ensuring that history is not forgotten.
Learn from the experts at the New Farm & Districts Historical Society about the architecture, early industry and businesses and fascinating facts about some of the local residences and wool stores. Several historical displays will be scattered throughout Vernon Terrace this year and the roving military band will also provide character and a reminder of the suburb's rich historical prominence.
History never repeats itself but each year the Magical Mystery History tour delights the crowd with their amusing and informative tour through the historical landmarks of Teneriffe. The tour is an absolute crowd pleaser so buy your tickets early on the day and get your seat on the Magical Mystery History Tour bus.
Join us on board the Teneriffe Magical Heritage Tour Bus and be transported back in time. 1825 was the starting point of 189 years of European history of this area.
Hear about those early days when Teneriffe was a cosmopolitan mix. There was the landed gentry - who lived in lavishly furnished homes with tennis courts and magnificent gardens - and the newly arrived immigrants, who worked as house servants or on the wharves and later in the Woolstores, living in the workers cottages that are still an architectural characteristic of the area.
The Heritage Tour explains the transformation of Teneriffe from a river fronted elite suburb in the 1880’s to an industrial storage and shipping site from the 1920’s. Its decline and its recent resurrection, when the derelict Woolstores were transformed into homes for a new generation of Teneriffe residents.
